We have a $50 gift certificate to give away to one lucky reader.

Right now, Market Street restaurants are celebrating all things Salmon. The fresh, wild Alaskan salmon season recently began, and all Market Street Grill, Oyster Bar, and Fish Market locations are joining in. The “all Alaska” salmon line-up will vary this season between the following selections:

Coho – Distinguished by its orange-red color, fine texture, and moist finish

Copper River – Recognized by some as the world’s best eating salmon with a firm, yet delicate, texture
and rich flavor

King – In terms of flavor and texture, it deserves its royal status

Sockeye – A sought-after salmon species, named for its distinctive deep red flesh and rich flavor

The season runs into early September with delicious selections available at lunch and dinner, and even at breakfast at the Market Street Grill/Downtown. Bill McArthur, Chef at Market Street Grill/Oyster Bar-Cottonwood says, “It’s no secret that salmon is loaded with the health benefits provided by omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that if you’re looking to boost your omega-3 intake, even one serving a week of wild Alaska salmon helps lower cholesterol and the risk of heart disease.”. Fresh, wild Alaska salmon filets are available at all Market Street Fish Markets for the home chef. And customers can purchase Market Street’s own freshly prepared Cucumber-Dill Sauce by the half-pint to serve with their salmon filets. Salmon recipe cards are also available, free for the taking, at all Fish Market locations.

To put your name in the hat to win the $50 gift card, all you need to do is comment once on this post, letting us know the following: We all love to treat ourselves to a bad splurge here and there, but what’s your favorite healthy treat? We will pick a random winner from all replies, in a weeks time.

This evening sees the opening of the popular Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in downtown SLC, bringing back the the ’sizzle’ to Salt Lake City. That sizzle by the way refers to the way Ruth’s Chris prepare their signature steaks: seared at 1800 degrees and topped with fresh butter so they sizzle all the way to your table. To celebrate the return of this high end eatery to Salt Lake’s dining scene we have two $50 gift cards to give away.

The new downtown location for Ruth’s Chris is within the refurbished Chase Bank building at 275 S West Temple (see here for some pics of the interior). As of 5PM this evening the restaurant will be open nightly from 5-10pm Monday-Thursday, 5-11 pm Friday & Saturday and 4-9 pm Sundays. Alongside their steaks expect to see chops, chicken, great seafood and shellfish as well as classic steakhouse sides including their famous sweet potato casserole.

To put your name in the hat for one of the two $50 gift cards, all you need to do is let us know the following:

“What brings the sizzle to your table?”

Post your answer as a comment on this story, at the bottom of the page. We will pick two random winners at the weekend. As ever, good luck!

In celebration of their halibut festival, our good friends at Market Street restaurants have given us a $50 gift card to give away to one lucky reader.

Fresh, wild Alaska halibut – the world’s premium whitefish – will soon be featured a variety of delicious ways at lunch and dinner at all Market Street Grill, Broiler, and Oyster Bar locations.

New on the lunch and dinner Halibut Special Menus is Fresh Alaska Halibut stuffed with Maryland Crab Cake topped with Hollandaise & Parmesan Cheese. Also on the menu is a Fresh Alaska Halibut Caesar Salad, Fresh Alaska Halibut Louie, Fresh Alaska Halibut & Shrimp, and Fresh Alaska Halibut Fish n’ Chips – just to name a few. Low in fat, calories, and sodium and high in quality protein, wild Alaska halibut is definitely a great catch.

For the home chef, Alaska’s delicious wild halibut can be purchased at all three Market Street Fish Markets. Bill McArthur, Chef at Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar/Cottonwood says, “No fish is easier to prepare. It is delicious baked, broiled, steamed, poached, grilled, barbecued, or blackened and served with tartar sauce or a wedge of fresh lemon.” The Fish Markets also offer free halibut recipes cards, provided by Market Street chefs.

With sustainability a major concern for everyone who enjoys seafood, Market Street’s wild Alaska halibut is not included on the list of seafood that is in danger from overfishing, habitat damage, or pollution. Alaska has provided the model for sustainability and has set the world’s gold standard for its precautionary approach to resource management of its seafood. As a result Alaska’s halibut fisheries can exist long-term without compromising the survival of the species or the health of the surrounding ecosystem. With this in mind, halibut lovers can enjoy this fresh, wild, delicious product knowing that it is plentiful and will be available for years to come.

To put your name in the hat for the $50 gift card, all you need to do is complete the following sentence:

“If I were to go fishing, and the water had no limits, my dream catch would be…”

The adventurous restaurant Tipica (at Caputo’s Market and Deli) is sadly no more. Rising from the ashes however is the Caputo’s new project, Caputo’s By Night. In celebration of this new restaurant we have a $50 gift card to give away to one lucky reader. But first, a little bit more information on Caputo’s By Night.

Tony Caputo’s Market and Deli has long been a favorite for lunching diners. The deli side of the operation serves an average of 500 lunches per day. Due to customer demand for a more casual evening dining experience Caputo’s Deli hours are now expanded for dinner service. Dinner service will be available Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., however, the deli operations are available daily Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to closing.

Tony Caputo’s brother Mikey (Uncle Mikey) is the new chef. He has run kitchens from fine dining operations to diners and everything in between. Mikey specializes in cooking simple Italian food quickly and consistently. His vast line cook experience will ensure the kitchen excels no matter how busy evenings get. Mikey insists all meats and poultry are fresh and cooked to order every time. For fish, Caputo’s just happens to have the state’s best fish market right next door. Whole fresh fish are bought and butchered in house daily.

The popular sandwiches and salads will still be served at night but ‘Caputo’s By Night’ will also serve many rustic Italian hot dishes using provincial Italian ingredients from the award-winning market. Dinner service will still include white table cloths, servers, and wine and beer, just in a more casual atmosphere.

Matt Caputo commented: “We’re very excited about our new venture. Our goal is to give people Italian deli comfort classics in an upscale yet relaxed environment. And with our reasonably priced wine and beer list, which includes wines by the glass starting at $4 and beers (including three Squatters on tap) starting at $3, customers can get a hearty and comforting meal and a drink for under $15 and rarely over $20″.

To stand a chance of winning the $50 gift card, all you need to do is complete the following sentence:

“My favorite thing to do ‘by night’ is…”

Post your answer as a comment on this story, at the bottom of the page. We will pick a random winner in a weeks time. Good luck to everyone!

To celebrate the Market Street group of restaurants Crab Festival, we are excited to have a $50 gift card, free for one lucky reader.

First a little word about this tasty annual event though. The Market Street Crab Festival begins January 12 at all Market Street locations and runs through the end of February, offering five different kinds of crab served at least a dozen different ways. Along with mouthwatering Dungeness crab from Oregon, there is Alaska King Crab, Maryland Lump Crab, Snow Crab, and Rock Crab. It’s truly the time for enjoying crab, no matter which variety you prefer.

For diners who love sweet Dungeness crabmeat, they will find this year’s catch especially succulent. According to Nick Furman, Director of the Oregon Crab Commission, “The Oregon Dungeness crab season’s got off to a roaring start with 10 million pounds of the prized crustacean crossing the docks already, and we’re only at the beginning of the harvest.” He added: “The quality’s been excellent so far. The Dungeness are full of meat and larger than usual in some areas of the coast.”

Quality and bounty are also hallmarks of this year’s Alaska King Crab harvest. Claudia Hogue, Foodservice Marketing Director of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, says, “Alaska fisherman braved the icy water of the North Pacific and Bering Sea to harvest a wonderful catch of Alaska King Crab, timed to ensure optimum quality and sustainability. No other shellfish makes quite the impression of Alaska King Crab which is unmatched for its sweet flavor and rich texture. Alaska Crab delivers on the ‘wow’ factor.”

Market Street diners can enjoy menu choices featuring crab in appetizers, salads, and entrees with selections like Crab Ravioli, Maryland Lump Crab Cakes, Three Crab Combination (with King, Snow and Dungeness), Market Street’s Famous Large Alaska Red King Crab Legs, and a 6-Ounce Center Cut Filet King Crab Oscar – to name just a few of the delicious crab menu specials.

To put your name in the hat for the $50 gift card, all you need to do is complete the following sentence:

“Now that it is 2010, my new years resolution is…”
