Events: Finca, Red White and Snow, Operation Smile

Finca – On Thursday, March 12th check out chef Phelix Gardner and crew’s cuisine as they craft a special multi-course menu to pair with sparkling wines from one of the original Cava producers in Spain, Raventós i Blanc winery. The tasting menu is $40 for food and $45 for wine. Space is limited and RSVP’s can be made via email at jana@fincaslc.com. A bit more info on the event comes via Michael Grisley, PR rep for the winery:

“We look forward to an entertaining evening with Pepe Raventós from Raventós i Blanc winery, in the heart of Sant Sadurni d’ Anoi Spain, the ancestral home to sparkling wine in Spain. He will discuss the history of his family’s estate, the recent decision to leave the Cava appellation, and his goal to create a new appellation, called “Conca del Riu Anoia.”

The Raventós family has over 500 years of winemaking history in the Catalonia region, dating back to 1497. As the oldest documented winery in Spain belonging to the same family, they have worked and farmed the same 220 acres for generations, including their ancestor Josep Raventós Fatjó. In 1872 he created the first sparkling wine in Spain using the traditional method, which would one day come to be known as cava. Since then, every generation has dedicated itself to tending the vineyards and to making the finest sparkling wines possible, always using the native grapes of the region.

This pioneering family spirit is still alive and well today in the hands of Pepe Raventós, the current owner and wine maker at Raventós i Blanc. Forward thinking and energetic, his goal is to make his grandfather’s dream come true to make Raventós i Blanc a winery of the highest international standing. With the deepest respect for nature, organic and biodynamic practices, and his never-ending quest to find the ideal balance between man, animal, and plant, he is a multi-faceted man dedicated to preserving his family’s deep tradition of winemaking.

Pepe will guide us through three sparkling wines he has designated Conca del Riu Anoia: the 2012 D’ Nit Rose, the 2012 L’ Hereu Brut, and the 2009 De la Finca. Please come experience the finest sparkling wines Spain has to offer, and to taste the history and future of Spanish winemaking.”

Operation Smile – March sees more opportunities to dine and donate too. Local TV personality Chef Tom dropped me an email this week about a cause very close to his heart – Operation Smile. Another great cause, and another great meal too – here’s the email from Chef Tom:

“As you may know, I’m heavily involved with Operation Smile, an organization committed to changing children’s lives. For as little as $240, a child with a cleft lip can get a life changing surgery. A surgery that builds confidence, removes social stigmas, and literally saves the recipients life. In 1 in 5 cases, an individual born with a cleft will die before the age of 2, unless they receive this simple, yet powerful surgery.

On Saturday, March 14th, please join me for the 4th Annual Celebrity Ski & Smile Challenge at Park City Mountain Resort benefiting Operation Smile, an incredible children’s charity that provides life-changing cleft lip surgery for children—essentially, a new smile for life and hope for a brighter future.

In three short years, our community has raised enough money to provide life-changing surgery for over 3,600 children around the world through this event. For a great recap of last year, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkNGsBdn9qI.

Tickets for our VIP dinner at Red Pine Lodge on Saturday night cost $250, which will provide one cleft lip surgery for a child in need. If you can’t attend, but would like to make an online donation to this fantastic cause, please visit www.operationsmile.org/parkcity.

In years past we’ve had the who’s who of Hollywood TV at the event, including Zach Levi (Chuck), Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice), Alan Tudyk (Firefly, A Knight’s Tale, Frozen), Jennifer Salke (President of NBC Entertainment), Billy Bush (Access Hollywood), Bert Salke (President of Fox 21 Television Studios), James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld), Whitney Cummings (2 Broke Girls, Whitney), Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Tony Hawk (Pro Skater), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) at the event, just to name a few.

Thank you for joining us in changing lives one smile at a time, and we hope to see you on March 14th!”
