I've often mused that the prices are quite high, heck the sausage roll is the UK equivalent of the Taco in terms of street food. A sausage roll should be

On balance though, Im sure Elizabeths caters to a certain niche of clientele and I can see why the prices are somewhat higher to sustain the business.

As for carbs in carbs, welcome to the world of traditional UK food, you probably wouldnt want to try a 'chip butty' ;)

The cornish pasties are just pastry and potatoes. Very little meat, so you have carbs inside carbs..or in other words pure stodge. Often the proprietress is short and rude to her staff which makes it very uncomfortable as a customer.
I am so tired of having to ask and ask for a tea cozy-since it is optional and you have to ask for one the staff has ALWAYS ignored the request so I have to repeat myself.
Also, heaven forbid they give you more than a quarter teaspoon of jam for your scone--it would break the bank, you know. Very miserly.
And considering the fact that the clotted cream is not imported from Devonshire but made in house, it is outrageous to pay imported prices for homemade.
I must admit the scones are good.

[...] Anglophiles be sad no longer! Elizabeth’s Bakery and Tea Shop is set to re-open this Saturday (May 22nd). New owners have taken over the reigns of this unique SLC eatery, which closed back in March amid much disappointment.
I tried the tea shop this weekend and found it absolutely charming. The Cornish pasty was delicious--thanks for the recommendation!

Good stuff Stuart! I just picked up copies of Alan Partridge and Spaced and told my wife that we'd be having an all-English DVD weekend to which she requested we make her Nan's sausage rolls. But I think we'll be picking them up from Elizabeth's now - much easier!

"My suggestion would be to get some real English on the menu"

I refuse to be on the menu! I expect real gravy was intended.
